I Bought The Cheapest RED Cinema Camera in 2024

Okay I'll admit that I bought it a little over a Year ago, and while it isn't the Cheapest Camera after 11 years and a 90% Price Drop it can actually keep up with more Modern Cameras in the same Price Range like the Canon C70 or Sony FX3.

I just picked up the Epic Dragon 6k and have always loved that sensor, color science, frame rates and compression control. So happy to own one myself and the footage still looks amazing.

It's a fantastic camera. May I share my opinion? Do not waste the footage you shoot by adding film emulation. It has a great look on it's own and as long as you keep the colours pretty true to life you will get more than what you feel you invested.
I've had all 4 DSMC cameras and it rings true for all of them. Please keep it natural.

Brother stop calling us late DSMC1 owners idiots 😂 I bought a Mint (10hrs sat on a shelf at Boeing) Epic Dragon DSMC1 for $7000 at auction in 2020.

The sensor is amazing when you feed it the light it demands and it’s a great trophy for someone like myself who’s always wanted one. It’s a great tripod B-cam to back up my FX6!

Hell throw the new DJI focus pro on it and it’s got autofocus now! I even threw it on my RS3 pro and with a Ready-Rig or vest of the like, it’s a match made in heaven. The touchscreen really holds up in this day and age too 😅

The red epic mx is to date one of my favorite cameras. From an aesthetic standpoint the footage it produces I think is better looking than any of reds modern cameras. From a technical standpoint it's worse and from a workflow standpoint it's a lot worse. But there's something about early high-end digital sensors that have much more artistry in the way they render images than any modern sensor.
Early sensors were more focused on replicating film than creating the most technically perfect image. The Fairchild sensor in the early blackmagic cameras were amazing, the alev III sensor from arri is still amazing, and the mysterium x sensor from red was awesome.
