Those color change Garnets are so much more attractive than most of the Alexandrite I’ve seen.

Beautiful garnets! I wished I could have that amazing color change garnet. Being my birthstone, I like to have all the colors.

Garnets are my all time favorite. That blue color changing garnet is amazing. Would sure like to have another garnet to replace the one I lost in my youth.

I have a question about peridots.

I have heard peridot being pronounced peri-dot and I have also heard it being pronounced peri-dough which is correct or are they both correct?

I found a chunk of schist full of what I believe are almandine/pyrope with maybe spessertine. The man who owned my property had a rock store so I don't know where they're from. They are very dark purple, almost black in color. Some of them have really bright red in the sun. They are covered in iron oxide and what I think is muscavite. Can I use muriatic acid to clean off the schist? What do I look for as far as identifying quality since so far they are too dark to see into very much. I haven't broken the core of the schist because I read a study from a university in Texas that said the quantity of spessartine increased from outside in. They are very beautiful, but I don't think they're gemstone quality at least from what I can tell although some do have a bright red layer over the dark and some of it appears to be pretty clear so maybe someone would be able to find materials worth working.
