Positioned my remote exactly as you did based on your vid. Works great! Thanks, thumbs up!

There are lots of written reviews on the remote on Amazon with various Edge units. There were not very many comments in the Garmin forum on the remote. I couldn't find much detail on placement of the remote, so I tried a few positions and found this the best for band routing and various hand placements, at least for me.

Question: Is it possible to configure what each button does? For example, I would much rather have two buttons for cycling screens (one for each direction) instead of having a start/pause button which you rarely ever need while riding. I also don't use the lap function but would like to be able to turn the screen on and off with the remote.

The remote seems interesting, didn't think of that mounting position. Considering getting the 530 with MTB bundle and it comes with this remote. I ride a gravel bike and spend a lot of time in XC terrain where needing to change to a different screen means slowing down drastically or stopping completely.

After a single ride where the remote was mounted over an unknown cable channel, destroying the cable to the rear derailleur, I would strongly recommend checking to be sure you don’t have cable running directly beneath the remote. It’s my fault for not checking the location, but maybe others will learn from my mistake.

Thanks for sharing...

I'm trying to decide if I should get this.

So remote allows one to basically scroll through screens, start new lap and start / stop activity?

I recently performed a lot of upgrades to my bike and got following computer & lighting system:

Garmin Edge 1000 Performance Bundle

I truly love the Edge 1000 so much that I bought following Garmin gear next day:
a. Garmin Remote
b. UT800 Smart Light
c. Garmin Varia Rearview Radar Tail Light

Also added following lights:
NiteRider Lumina OLED 1100 Boost : Front
NiteRider Sentinel 150 : Rear

CygoLite HotRod 50 on Set stay opposite drive train ( derailleur ).

After a slight drizzle, the remote mount moved slightly due to less friction between the handlebar tape and the rubber pad under the mount. So I had to change the routing of the bands. I kept the location of the mount in the same place, and took both bands over the top of hood and to the ear under the ear above it. The mount and remote should now stay in the same location and not move around. With gloves on, I do not feel the bands on top of the hood. I really like the remote, and I don't put smudge marks on the Garmin 820 from swiping on the display, which makes it difficult to read, by using the remote.

Hopefully it'll work with 1030 edge that should come out before August is over....

I should have said handlebar drop instead of dropout. Sorry for the wrong term.

How did you get the fancy circular data screen with loads of data options at the 1:40-1:45 mark on the edge 820? (circular menus, variable font size data items and more than the typical max 10 data points per screen?!).

Can you use it like a mouse and click on items while riding, I was thinking this could control my eMTB settings while on a ride

Perhaps im missing something but I dont see a real advantage of using the remote unless you are participating in Ironman events where you need to stay aero..The distance from the remote to the Garmin head unit is not that far... But I could be wrong..
