5 Statistics about Lin Dan that will amaze you!

EDIT: After so many requests I also did a video about the insane numbers of Lee Chong Wei and his career:

---Overview------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here a short overview about the different sections and topics in the video:
0:00 The 5 Stars
0:50 Big Titles
2:54 Winning Percentage
3:58 Matches Played
5:45 Above 90% Wins
6:39 Winning Streaks
7:52 Outro

---How i got the numbers-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is not easy to make stats about badminton, as there is no tool or filter on tournamentsoftware or the BWF page to help you to get specific numbers about players other than their general win/loss ratio and their head to head statistic against other players. In the end it was a lot of scrolling and counting on tournamentsoftware to get to the numbers I present you in the video and here a few important things how I got to them:

- I only included individual tournaments for all stats
- I excluded walkovers and only included played matches for all statistics. - There are a few winning streaks in the 5th stat, where players didn’t compete at a tournament during their streak so you find a walkover on tournamentsoftware but I counted on, just like Momota in 2019.
- I only looked at players, that played during the last 3 decades, so they also had a chance to compete at the Olympics that where held since 1992.
- In stat nr. 1 of course there are a lot more players with big titles but I tried to choose big names from the past few years as well as the ones, with an outstanding amount of titles
- in stat 5 I haven't checked all successfull women singles players so maybe there are more with 24+ streaks but in general I think it is a quite rare thing overall. For example I was also checking Gideon/Sukamuljo but they never had a 20+ winning streak even though they are so dominant over the last couple of years

I had to do all the counting by hand, so I may have missed out on a few legends, that defintly deserve a spot in some of the stats.

Of course there are also very successful players in earlier years that would rank in that statistics but the more you look back the harder it is to compare players as the tournament calender changed and the sport became more and more professional over the last few decades. Players like Gillian Gilks or George Alan Thomas for example won big titles in Singles, Doubles and Mixeddoubles, something that is absolutly impossible these days so in my eyes it is hard to make a comparison based on numbers with players from these early aeras.

---Shout out--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks a million to @woodyfilms once again for the amazing editing and making that project possible. Please let us know what you think about that format and if there are other players or stats where you are interessted in just tell us in the comments =)

At one point of time in 2014, Lin Dan's career winning percentage hovered around 90 percent marks.

That's so insane, i mean even after 14 years of Professional Badminton, to maintain a career winning percentage of over 90 percent is insane.

His statistics in Team Competition is unparalleled.

His Thomas Cup victory over Lee Chong Wei in 2010 might be the most iconic Thomas Cup victory of all Time.

To beat your arch rival in his home turf in the year where he was undefeated all throughout the year, in such a dominant fashion is something else.

Also, Lin Dan dominated his closest rival Lee Chong Wei head to head with 28 wins - 12 losses record.

definitely the very best of what badminton has ever had the privilege of having. maintaining the win when u r in doubles should be easier, because even if u didn't play all that well, there''s still your partner. but in singles, u have to do it all by yourself, u have to have perfect stamina, winning mentality and mindset, even when u r trailing, to even think these statistics r even possible, is mind boggling, while he is in an era of great players and rivals, he was still dominating that much. Much respect to the G.O.A.T Lin Dan. thanks for showing us, the world, the wonderful badminton that u showed, he was not just able to win, but he can win in such fashion, truly no other

Big thanks for making this. There is lot of information that most of the people don't know. It just shows how awesome player LD was. Sad that in couple of last years he suffered so many early losses which lowered his win-lose ratio. Otherwise hes ratio would be even better than LCWs. Before 2018, in 2016 or something he had over 600 wins and under 100 losses. This ratio was incredible.

He had some incredible stats indeed. How he was able to maintain his consist wins for so long is hard to believe when you look at the numbers.

You could never count him out when it was the big titles, even up till the 2017 World Championship final when people were saying he was past it then, he still made it to the final.

Great stats Tobias 👍 looking forward to your next video 🏸😁

Great statistics! Not only for the Lindan's part but also including the other legends of all time. The gap between those numbers shows how successful Lindan was in his entire career.

Very interesting stats. I think that, over the past few years, it wasn't that Lin Dan wasn't good enough, it was more that, having already won everything multiple times, he just wasn't motivated enough...
