Why this video focuses on existing rail lines in Nicaragua, I don't know, but here's the real story ...
In 2014, Nicaragua's National Assembly approved Wang Jing's Nicaragua Investment Group plans to build a 174 mile canal from Brito to The Bluefields at Punta Gorda. The western portion of the canal was to run from Brito to Lake Nicaragua, and was to be 16 miles long. Next, a trench was to be dredged across the bottom of the Lake Nicaragua (because it isn't deep enough). Then the eastern leg of the canal was to be built 80 miles from the lake to the eastern shores of Nicaragua. The Chinese Government and other private investors were to provide part of the financing, and initial estimates were that the project would be completed by 2020. Work never got off the ground however, as Wang Jing's investment group encountered a number of setbacks around the world in 2014, and then Wang Jing lost 85% of his personal wealth in China's 2015 Stock Market Crash.
