Cessna's New Corvalis TTx at Sun 'n Fun

The breakout star of the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In thus far is Cessna's new Corvalis TTx, which features sharp-looking leather interiors and an ultra-modern Garmin Intrinsic avionics package. Cessna Aircraft's Kirby Ortega showed us the high points during a break in the rain on the first day of the show.

WOW, that's a nicer cockpit than many jets have

I like this aircraft vs. the Cirrus SR-22 for many reasons. It seems to be light years ahead of Cirrus in terms of avionics and interior appointments. Cirrus is racking up a less than stellar safety record, despite the parachute system. From the exterior and the side-stick layout, the two aircraft seem very close. Has AVWeb or Flying Magazine done a ship to ship comparison? Performance, Cost, and Safety are the things I'd be interested in. Also, why not just go with a 2 or 3 y/o Bonanza G36?

Their approach with the old Lancairs should be to make a retractable turbo prop and and treat the finishes like a citation.

What Cessna should have done is keep the Corvalis TT line as is (kill the 350 Corvalis) and introduce the Corvalis TTx as a brand new 4 seat utility category airplane that

1) looks like the CE-400 but is 15-20% larger than the current Corvalis TT with greater GTOW, useful load, fuel and range.
2) is a retract
3) is pressurized
4) is turbine powered
5) Offers the G2000 combined with a HUD and FLIR/NVS as an optional avionics package to the current G1000 system.

That is what i thought too, when i saw it. But it has a L-3 trilogy as backup and they claim it should be safe from lightning strike.

I wish Cessna would bring back the Centurion with Avionics like this.

@sksakm14 Don't confuse *current* FADEC with what could be done with FADEC. There's no reason that FADEC can't do LOP operation -- it just hasn't been done. It's time for small GA aircraft to catch up with economy cars from 20 years ago, at a minimum.

An aircraft of this caliber should have had heads up display for starters.Rear seat is crammed. Pressurized cabin would have been nice. The cockpit is not as ergonomic as the Cirrus SR22 as in crew friendly.Pilot oriented cabin, but it is definitely a beauty.I wish i had 800k cash but we could wait for the Cirrus small personal jet for a little more say 1.2-1.5 mil.If you are going to spew that much cash, might as well get a jet.

@OWHSsoccer07 that makes two of us. Real pilots are becoming rare

I wish Cessna would bring back the 152 with a G500 and a GTN 750 GPS

I wonder if he misspoke and meant this is replacing the 400?

I still say the 350 is the best bang for the buck.

Very nice airplane, but not for everyone. The only thing I don't like about these Corvalis and Cirrus type airplanes are that they have very little rear room and luggage space compared to a 182. Although built for more speed, I just don't see myself flying this with 3 friends like I do with my Turbo 182. The useful load is 100 lbs less and less room for rear occupants. I agree with making the airplane slightly larger and give up 10 - 15 kts. Too tight for 3+ people with gear.

Ahhh cool, but still made in Mexico. Love to stick my head in that plane and inspect it. Oh well, moving on... and yes, We at Columbia had plans for RG. The Aircraft would only pick up 3-4 knots. lots of added weight, do the math if you like. I do NOT like the plastic control stick, liked the look of the real wood.
Live on Columbia!

Oh boy..A few observations....It seems the message is:"Wow, look at this cool Garmin and by the way the airplane comes with it...??" My favorite: The the ESP. The servos will "gently nudge" you back into level flight. Will the plane fight me, if by some odd chance I were to get caught in wake turbulence and I got flipped 120 deg and I want to go the opposite way? $734K and I can't even retract the gear? Gear is no good for ditching or soft terrain. Cool plane for novice pilot with $ to blow.

@BurnTheBlue Why an RG? Just because they look cooler? With today's modern pressure recovery fairings there's almost zero benefit in RGs in pistons. They add weight, complexity, cost (not that cost matters that much to someone buying a Corvalis) and very little if any performance increase.
