Teaching Self-Awareness with Everyday Speech

Показать описание
The Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum from Everyday Speech is built on the foundation of the 5 CASEL competencies.
The Collaborative for Academic and Social and Emotional Learning or CASEL provides this framework as the core skills to cultivate and advance students’ social-emotional learning and development.
The first CASEL competency highlighted in our Social-Emotional Learning curriculum is Self-Awareness.
Teaching students self-awareness helps them to better understand their emotions, thoughts, values, and cultural identities.
It’s a skill that teaches students to look inward and addresses the question we all have: “Who am I?”
Using SEL to teach self-awareness gives students the opportunity to stop and think about their feelings and why they might feel a certain way in various situations.
Self-awareness also gives us a sense of our capabilities. It forms the base for our self-motivation and accomplishments.
So why is self-awareness important?
High levels of self-awareness relate to greater achievement. We get hungrier for achievement and accomplishments. This helps us seek out new experiences.
Lesson Overview
As you work through the curriculum, you’ll be teaching growth mindset, using positive self-talk, and changing the channel on big emotions.
At the end of this unit, students should be able to:
Label their own emotions
Realize the passing or changing nature of feelings
Recognize that emotions can affect their behavior and vice versa
And label the physical effects of emotions in their body
