I just finished watching the movie and I was confused with all the present and past present stuff but then was even more confused when I seen the scene where he woke up on the moon and this was a really good explanation on what happened

simple explanation.
the boy actually gets the memory of the girl. but the boy consciousness did not make it to go back after the full dive.
so the girl continues the research to get the memory of the boy. then create 100% working full dive into the system to get back the memory of the boy.

This is how i understand it with all the explanation, so basically the s2 naomi successfully got the girls memory but he didnt make it out so he stayed unconscious, so when the girl woke up she researched to get naomi back but since he died on the s2 world he casually woked up?

So basically S1 ruri and naomi (which the movie ended with) didn't actually exist) only the s2 Naomi did?
