What a day dumpster diving! Digging through the snow for scrap metal is always a challenge and today was no different, but despite not finding much for heavy steel we actually put together a really great day! Sometimes it's the weight, and sometimes it's the nonferrous!

(If you make a purchase on amazon through the links above, a small amount of what amazon makes on the sale is shared with me. It's a great way to help support my channel, at no additional cost to you. Even if you buy something other than my tool recommendations!)

Want to give a big shoutout to all of the electricians who put all of their scraps neat and tidy in a box or contractors bag, your consideration does not go unnoticed 👍

I always take the metal wrapped hoses on shower attachments. Half of the time the wrapping is steel, the other half it's thin brass.

I’m electrical contractor in Saskatchewan. Most likely that chunk of cable with the aluminum in it was probably for a hot tub they were wiring. You can use copper or aluminum. It’s called tech cable and used where it needs protection from damage. Going from house outside to a hot tub.

The aluminum wire is the power supply line from the service provider, they don't use copper as much anymore.

That bigger 3-conductor cable is usually for the main house service connection aka the "feeder". Usually anything that draws bigger than 60 amps is gonna be aluminum cuz of cost and weight, though in residential ya can't use aluminum wiring except in the service feeder. The armored+pvc wrapped stuff is called "TECK-90" or just "teck" cable. And yup, rated for outdoors, buried, and water exposure.

Happy treasure hunting, Thub! And stay warm!

Neoprene thub. I find it often diving commercial renovation dumpsters. Copper wire alternative I believe.

Strip all that can be stripped including those around ones. Not as hard as you think, I do it myself in Winnipeg in the winter.

My friend used to dumpster dive for a living, but he lost a leg in an accident so now he works at IHOP
