7 New Planets Discovered! | NASA

NASA has discovered a remarkable system of seven planets orbiting a star slightly bigger and hotter than the Sun. The star, called Kepler 385, lies around 5,000 light years away in the constellation Cygnus. It’s slightly hotter and bigger than the Sun. All the seven planets are larger than Earth but smaller than Neptune, and are bathed in more radiant heat from their host star, than any planet in our solar system. The reason why this discovery is so important is that Kepler-385 system is one of only a few known planetary systems to contain more than six verified planets. It is also one of the very few systems in which all of the planets are larger than Earth. It suggests that such systems may be more common than previously thought. Further study could help us to better understand the formation and evolution of planets.

Meanwhile another civilization 5000 light years away: We just discovered a remarkable system of 8 planets orbiting a star slightly smaller and colder than our sun!

Never ending skies and solar systems and galaxies, space is always ashtonishing.

Bro I swear, if I can have any power I want, it’s to be able to explore space (planets, other systems, and just looking at celestial bodies or even nebulas) via flying/floating/teleporting and maybe having some kind of bubble or sum around me to protect me from different kinds of radiation and so I could breathe. That would be so cool. First thing I’ll do with that power is to visit the planets in our solar system because I love them

I wonder what they're like, on their surfaces. My imagination is spinning! The cosmos is mind-blowing!

I can’t imagine the life out there just waiting for us to find them. Galactic neighbors! Welcome to the neighborhood!

One thing is, they discover planets by the fact that they darken the star slightly as the pass between the star and the telescope. Take earth, orbits the star once every 365 days. They would have to be pointing the telescope at our star on the exact time that earth passed in front of it (relative to the telescope it would be once per year). A very primitive way of discovering planets in other systems.

Very cool, the Kepler 385 system has almost as many planets as our solar system! Sounds like an interesting system

Exoplanets are cool, however, this music is more interesting. Can some please tell me what this song is.

When I saw the title, I was like “15 planets now!? Oh, they’re exoplanets. …”
