Rewatching this I realized “Ad Aegyptum” translates directly to “to Egypt” or “towards Egypt” in Latin.

If Alexandria is called Ad Aegyptum it could possibly mean the city to Egypt or the city Towards Egypt with the implications being of it being Janus or a gate into Egypt. It’s a point of entry. Which makes sense as it was an important port city for centuries after its construction.
