Good job on the ledger board. At the old house I built a deck off the laundry room and set a hot tub on it. It was a 6 person hot tub and weighed about 3500 lbs when full of water and 6 people. 😆
To avoid some, ahem, "permit issues", I didn't attach it to the house. The frame sat about 3 inches away from the siding. I overhung the decking to fill the gap and left 1/2" air gap between the deck and siding. It worked out that the clapboard covered the 1/2" gap just right.
I over built the joists under the hot tub with 2x10's and set a total of nine 4x4 support posts buried 3 feet sitting on a rock and concreted in.
Of course 3 years after building the deck we sold the hot tub. 😆
That was about 25 years ago. As of last fall, the deck was still in place. 😆😎

Hmm, maybe you can talk the finance committee into an electric impact for the upcoming lag bolts, and also a three point auger for the tractor for the posts. Us poor guys can't do what we used to after all Mrs Grampie! Lol I've got your back Mike!
Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next one.

Morning Grampie! Learned a few things this morning over a fresh brew to start the day. Good tip to use the 2x4's to help hold it up while you adjust it. Nice! Looking forward to the next episode! Cheers!

You're a man of many talents Mike. I'm sure there isn't much you can't do or be able to learn.

Hey Grampie. Nicely...nicely done. You hit everything on the head. Here's a thought, Mike: Make the deck 10x12 or 10x14. Here's why. You and Nannie are relaxing in your RECLINER deck chair and someone needs to get up and go into the house for a fresh cup of coffee. Well, your legs are extended in the recliner and there's little-to-no room to walk past one another. It was a lesson I learned. If you make your deck 12 or 14 feet from the wall, there's ample foot-room to get around. When the grand kids come to visit and come on the deck, they can get around easily. If the dog's on the deck, well....the dog's just gonna jump on ya because dogs don't care because they just plain love ya (smile). Just a thought before you get too far into it. Enjoyed a full-watch and waiting for Part 2.

I’m not a professional but I think the siding should have been cut out one flashing installed under the siding and bent over the ledger? And I believe code varies based on the size of ledger and length as you lag size and spacing?? If anyone knows if that’s correct I’d appreciate the advice

Hi Mike! Looks like you’re off to a great start with the deck! I think you have the same kind of 2 foot level as I do. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build. Thanks for sharing!

Great start to our new deck. I know we debated a fair amount about the size but I think we opted for the perfect size!

Did you put the lag bolts into studs? Those are some monster bolts there.
