Quiver: A Fey Wanderer Ranger build with a dip of The Undead Patron warlock. This is one of the best combos for causing the frightened condition, on top of archery goodness.

Another thing to note about Plant Growth, especially for Rangers, is that the duration is instantaneous. This means that the effect that causes them to grow is magical, but after that they're nonmagical plants hindering movement. You know, the kind of movement hindering nonmagical plants you can move through without being slowed as part of Land's Stride.
It also means Plant Growth is immune to dispel magic as there's no magic remaining to be dispelled. I just love that spell.

I'm going to start high-fiving everyone with a build that doesn't have either Polearm Master or Crossbow Expert.

The moment you brought up Form of Dread from warlock, I instantly knew where it was going and it's beautiful

I'm happy to see ranger getting some love.

With Beguiling Twist it's almost as if the designers binged a bunch of your videos and got tired of you going "if they make their save, nothing happens"

I’ve been searching EVERYWHERE for a Fey wanderer Ranger build and there is so little content diving into it; your initial review on it has been one of the more in depth ones so far. I’m so happy this is coming out today

Check the wording on that Dreadful strike.
It's not once per turn. It's once per target per turn.

Cool build, I would make her an hexblood instead, almost the same benefits as Half-Elf but more interesting abilities. That way, I would reflavor my undead patron as an Unseelie archfey, like some powerful hag, maybe her "granny".

Ahh I had made a Fey Wanderer Ranger with a dip in Undead Warlock a couple weeks back after being inspired by your VRGR video. Looking forward to see how our builds contrast

You truly are the best at finding, optimizing and presenting these synergies, great build!

I think playing this build i would dip Undead at level 2. Sure, this will delay a lot of features by one level each and most likely come out a bit weaker but it will also let me benefit from Dread Form (and a recharcheable spell slot) for the entire leveling process. Sure, the main build synergy will still come at the same point (Level 8) but fear adn temp hp boost are quite strong at early levels and your second attack (which is great for more opportunities to apply hit) will only be delayed by one level.

I've found that i want to get dips done as soon as reasonable and not wait for halfway or even 2/3rds of the campaign to finally add it, both for fun and for roleplay reasons. If the campaign starts at level 2 that way you don't have to beg the DM to facilitate an opportunity to sell your soul but instead can work it into your backstory.

Thanks for another great build guide! I really enjoy your content, just found your unbelievably thematic Ancestral Guardian/Echo Knight build and it made me heavily reconsider changing my Shield Master version backup character (in case EGtW is allowed; Echo Knight adds so much flavor to the AG theme) :D

It is worth remembering that if you use the ranger feature to become invisible, the frightened condition doesn't work on creatures you frightened as long as they can't see you.

Love this build and it also pairs great with Eladrin if you want to get a charm effect from the Autumn fey step feature - for even more fey flavor and synergy with the beguiling twist. Also thank you for putting together such a cool build that isn’t the same old polearm / crossbow expert / darkness-devil’s sight mashup!

If I was having as many combat encounters as you usually prepare for, I'd probably have the summon fey up for when I couldn't use the form of dread. That way I've always got some way of using beguiling twist available. If I'm doing less encounters, or it's an especially tough one, then I can still have both up. A really cool build.

Your mention of this interaction actually inspired me to make a different kind of build with Swarmkeeper. Thank you!

This build would also work very well with the Eladrin race from monsters of the multiverse. they get a number of bonus action teleports each day equal to their proficiency bonus, and from 3rd level the teleport has a rider effect that can charm or frighten. So, that's another way to frighten and charm, and another feature that make sure you're always making good use of your bonus action and reaction.

Not only is this build fucking cool, but man does it have a lot of FLAVOR.

Like I’m already thinking of a backstory of who this character would be. How form of dread can alter the character’s appearance, HOW IT ALTERS THE APPEARANCE OF GUARDIAN OF NATURE. HOLY SHIT.

Ranger is already my favorite class in 5e and this takes it to a whole other level in terms of combat synergy and role play flavor. I love it. Cheers to the algorithm.

I played a one shot with an 11th level fey wanderer and it was very fun. Facilitating the frightened condition is a cool idea. However, for specifically a 11th level one shot, I'd go straight ranger to get the great 11th level feature. Nice build. This is a character to play from level 1 to 20, being useful in and outside of combat, full of flavor, and with tactical choices. My cup of tea.

Love this build, as I do like 70% of your content (the rest is at least *good*), but I don't quite agree with how many feats are being taken or with Warlock being taken before the level 8 ASI. But hey, that's how you chose to build this particular concept, and I am by no means obliged to follow it to a T. Which is the great thing about builds, they're flexible! You build this character your way, if that's what you like more, and I'll build mine how I like them. No issues here.
Anywho, D&D is for everyone, let's just keep having fun with some sweet builds. Here's hoping you get to a million subs and beyond, Chris!

Note that if you dip 1 lvl more into warlock to get invocations, you could take eldritch mind for your concentration saves and maybe beguiling influence or eldritch sight.
Great vid as always btw!
