I love her response. It's easy to fall into wanting to be like everyone else when you feel like you stand out for being different. But, I'm glad she said she's proud of where she comes from and also respects the place and people where she currently is.

It’s also important to mention that Japanese as a people are very ignorant especially when they have never set foot abroad. The knowledge they have of the outside world is through tv shows that TO THIS DAY depict black people as “scary, thugs, who play basketball, are good at sports”. I have met many people through the many years I’ve lived in Japan and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM was shocked and in disbelief when I told them I was from France, cause I’m black. Yes. Japanese people in the year 2023 still believe black people are from the US, and French people are white. Their beauty standards are skinny, gauntly white with giant knockers. Unless you are naturally pale you don’t need to strive for whiteness, if you aren’t naturally thin just be a healthy you. Be you cause everyone else is taken.

A lady that I’d call thick and perfect, is genuinely referred to as being fat over here in Japan. That’s why Japanese ladies go through a great deal atimes to remain skinny. Being yourself really is the best advice to give, a person will surely avoid developing a complex and depression in that case.

I'm a UK size 10/12. I was called a rhino by people on the train who didn't know I understood them. This was in Tokyo. They also had a conversation about the size of my legs and the colour of my skin. Apparently my white skin is too pink to be pretty. I was there for a fortnight to visit family. I'm glad I don't love there.
