“No Sympathy For Fat People, They Need To Pay For An Extra Seat” | Cristo

Finland's leading airline has recently revealed a new practice – they're now weighing passengers, not just their luggage.

Finnair stated that these weigh-ins are entirely "voluntary and anonymous," aiming to ensure that the airline stays within the prescribed maximum weight for a safe take-off.

Passengers who volunteer for the weigh-ins will be assessed alongside their carry-on baggage, with only the customer service agent at the measuring point having access to the total weight information.

Importantly, the collected data will remain completely unlinked to any personal passenger information, ensuring privacy.

These voluntary weigh-ins have commenced at the departure gates of Helsinki Airport.

Cristo speaks with media personality Ryan Mark-Parsons.

Some people are just rude and infringe on my space on the plane. They don't need to be fat to be an annoyance

Completely agree with Christo.
Baggage is weighed, why not passengers?
A no-brainer I would have thought.

I have the worst case of thyroiditis (Hashimoto's) myself and thus, a hormone imbalance and chronic fatigue. So to combat this, I eat once a day. Do I love this way of living? No. Am i always hungry? Yes. But eating 3 meals a day, I would quickly become obese. I have a physical job out of choice because a desk job was keeping my weight at 12st. In spite of my regime, my weight is still 11st after 7yrs.
So do I think that any 'wide' people pay for extra room?
Unequivocally, Yes.
We have to start taking personal responsibility for ourselves.

If they spill over into the next seat, which they often do, they need to pay for it. If I paid for a seat I should be able to use the entire seat.

My husband is a pilot for large and small commercial airlines. Weight is very crucial in calculating fuel/distance.

Someone here mentioned 1960 seat sizes vs today. In 1960 the seats were between 17 & 18 inches, now they’re typically 16.5 inches.
If you want a 1960 seat size, you’re going to pay 1960 seat prices inflated In today’s dollars/pounds etc…

We have gotten bigger and forcing the world to accept it. 🤨 I have a thyroid condition that makes it difficult to lose weight but I’m managing with healthy eating and staying active. No excuse for the majority of society. And please don’t say “Healthy eating is expensive” 🤨

I live in the southern part of the U.S. where there is a large population of obesity. 🙁Sadly, in general obese folks do tend to emit unpleasant odors as it’s difficult for them to reach places for washing - unless they can get assistance. 😞

Pay more to the airline??!! So, the airline gets financially stimulated, but I have to share my seat with half of somebody else’s body. I’m the one put out do I get a discount?

I'm not exactly slim but I do fit in a standard seat, if I didn't I would expect to pay for an extra seat. My weight gain is due to a medical condition and I would still expect to pay for another seat.!!! That airline Extra seat policy and refund is a great idea!!!

You know what, I don't really agree with the body acceptance movement, but can't we all agree that airplane seats keep getting smaller and smaller and thats on the airlines. If we forced airlines to go back to old seating sizes like from the 60's. Not only would everyone have a better time but I think most "larger than life" people could actually sit in them and fit into a single seat. It would benefit all passengers, not just the entitled ones.

I totally agree.. should also have removable dividers between the seats to stop passengers overflowing/inposing on their fellow passengers

If the seat belt dont go around you then you shouldn't be flying you should be running😂

We were on an LA to BCN flight where we had paid for premium economy (slightly larger seat, more leg room). On the way to the loo, there was a man who must have been over 400 pounds and about 1/3 of his bulk was spilling out into the aisle. It was difficult to just navigate around him to proceed toward the rear for the "necessary." I can't imagine how it must have been for the person sitting next to him. Part of the problem is that unless you are younger than 10 years, no economy seat is going to be comfortable as people are getting bigger and seats are getting smaller.

What about tall people? My husband is tall but thin, will he have to pay more too? He certainly can't help his height. He often has to search for where to put his legs and has to try not to infringe on people's space. What is the weight requirement for tall people..how should they figure that out?

Aorlines jist need to create more legroom and larger seats.. to me it's a safety packing everyone in like sardines. Especially nowadays when everybody seems to be in touch with their inner bully.

I agree with this but i can't wait for people in the comments to say the airline is Fat shaming.

I am not skinny but fit perfectly well in a seat. One time I was on a long haul flight of 12 hrs and the plane was full and he was spilling way over to my space. it was awful!!! it's not fair! they need to have 2 seats or go business class

There's over-weight and there's clinically obese. There needs to be a weight to height ratio limit.

So do people who are thinner pay half price or something? What is the correct weight to be?
