Avowed Review - The Final Verdict

If you want an RPG that completely changes the way you look at the genre, or perhaps one that takes your breath away with its sheer depth, complexity, and reactivity, Avowed may very well let you down. But that’s not the sort of game that it’s trying to be. Avowed is perfectly content to follow the RPG rulebook, to keep things compact and simple, and to focus on its key strengths- and the end result is an RPG that might not be the most original or groundbreaking, but one that delivers an undeniably enjoyable and compelling experience, nonetheless.

Combat, exploration, world-building, characters, writing- all of these are areas where RPGs need to succeed in most circumstances, and Avowed impresses on each front.

Im a little past 20 hours into the game, and it's worth playing. The environment is beautiful, the dialog and storyline are enough to capture you, and the fighting is smooth and fast. Not every game needs to be GOTY quality for me. This will be a nice game to play a couple of times through for different dialog options and character builds.

One thing I learned from this video is that they totally abandoned the dark aesthetic from the reveal trailers. It looks like Guardians of the Galaxy meets a puking rainbow

The entire Internet seemed to hate The Outer Worlds, which I found immensely fun and engaging, I might have to give this one a shot!

I’m about 20 hours in, game is definitely worth playing. Plays like a first person dragons dogma and the story is good. Just play it slow and do the side quest there’s a lot this game has to offer especially with it on Gamepass.

It’s a great game. Exploration and combat is so fun. It’s hella good that enemies don’t respawn. Spent ages clearing some out yesterday and slept like a baby knowing I won’t have to redo them when I got back to an area.
Upgrading cooking and crafting is accessible for all player experience types AND my bloody favourite weapons don’t break 🙌🏼

The Pillars setting is an excellent foundation for a well thought out and detailed RPG. So knstead, they gave us Family Dollar Oblivion and charged us full retail price.

While its an unpopular opinion, I personally prefer games that actually use smaller maps. As for me personally, it can make the world seem so much bigger. I don't need those 50 miles of empty road and mountain side ingame. Just move me to a new location, with pretty new aestetics. Also gives a better feel, than the game within 50 meters changing from a Grassland to a Snowy Mountain or Swamp, because large open worlds doesn't really add the space for a proper biome transition.

It's nice to see the reviewer enjoyed the game, and other people do. I think it's important to remember that this is classed as an RPG, but seems more like a solid open adventure with some RPG mechanics. I watched SkillUp and Gman's reviews and they do bring up very good points, considering the lack of interesting weapons, scaling, and lacking RPG elements. Can anyone confirm if buying houses, romances and some other staples are here in Avowed? I didn't like the fact you can go breaking the law and face consequences.... that seems a shame.

Its not groundbreaking, but it definitely feels like a breath of fresh air. Im enjoying it more than KC2 as of right now.

I heard about this game a few years ago and was so excited obsidian was making it..nothing about this now makes me want to put down KCD2 lol
