Honestly, Stan's original future seemed quite appropriate for him: Even outside of the deaths of Shelly and Sharon Stan has a lot of reason to have unresolved issues around his family, South Park, ect., comes from a family with a predisposition for alcoholism. It'd make sense for him to end up as someone who's got issues as an adult.

It made less sense for Kyle to have nothing to fall back on in this timeline. Like, Kyle has a generally good home life, didn't go through any major trauma best we can tell(Is still in contact with Ike and everything), ect.

So it kinda felt that Kyle having nothing was just to keep the episode moving, whereas it felt very fitting with Stan.
