Alright guys How many of you Americans grew up with Greg Martin's Sonic art in the 90s? The truth is, he made Sonic a marketable Success in the West!

I’d like to see the return of this style. The detail and shading is styled along the lines of Looney Tunes. It was certainly the best for the cartoon series.

I've just now looked up Greg Martin on google images and it looks like he's worked up on more than just Sonic. He also did illustrations for Looney Toons and other Tex Avery cartoons.

Yeah I myself never looked too much into what art style version of Sonic define to me. Except I realized this gentleman’s artwork is the one I grew up from a American perspective. I just excepted what I was given that drew my interests as a Sonic fan. Not to say I was blind or careless how he ever looked. Always seen the appeal. So I’m not jumping the bandwagon to swift for the real original Japanese design. I just enjoyed Sonic from any history. But as a fan who grew up with the American releases, I see the point of the video learning who the artist is. Awesome peace of franchise history. Sonic back in the day was such a glorious time. Back when Sonic was on top, and how peaceful the times were. Just gamers enjoying video games. I’m not pretending to dis the one I grew up with. This isn’t just American nostalgia. But I still like his actual Japanese design.

I love his iconic art for the Genesis era Sonic. Its sad i never knew the name of the artist because no one talks about him like other Sonic artists.

Funny enough, the first time I saw Greg Martin's art in the Sonic classic collection ds gallery, I also remember tracing most of his art in the game and eventually I could draw sonic on my own!

I think the reason why American Sonic had the mohawk spikes style was because we always saw one side of his face in the 2D games and rarely his back side.

Actually, Greg Martin didn't draw the Sonic 1 cover, it was actually someone named Greg Wray, which I've met, Martin didn't start drawing the covers until Sonic 2. I can see how people can get them mixed up sometimes...

Greg Martin's Sonic (American Sonic in general) I consider to be "My Sonic" don't get me wrong I like JP classic and Adventure designs but this is what I grew up with 💖💖💖

While I like Greg Martin's take on Sonic mostly because to appeal to the 90s punk rock look (Fun fact When i was a Teen in High School I was a Punk Rocker mixed with Emo) to show how Sonic had somewhat of a rebellious attitude. Since I watched Sonic OVA and with the release of Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube I prefer the Japanese look for Sonic. I hate Sonic Underground but You can see bits Japanese Sonic in the Cartoon. Greg Martin's Sonic was cool but Japanese Sonic is the real Classic Sonic IMO




Fun Fact there was a Promotional Comic for Sonic The Hedgehog 1 and Greg Martin did the cover for the Comic it Looks pretty cool check it out.

I am gonna be honest when I was a little boy I thought that the Sonic 2 cover looked good but it also confused me cause the cover for sonic 1 here in Europe was different. And before someone asks no I was not born in the 90s. I am just lucky to have sonic 2 for the Sega mega drive / Genesis

I see you point of view & perspective however I'm always used & prefer the Japanese Sonic render of all time.
