I was taken aback that I cried--and am crying--when I learned of Gord Downie's passing. I agree with Justin that we are less for Gord no longer being physically here, but we are more for his having here and been the kind of man that he was and now continues to be in his new place of being. My best to his family and friends. Let's put our shoulder to the wheel of lifting up and helping to restore our indiginous communities. Not just because Gord thought we must do this to be a whole nation, but because the law of love and of justice requires it before Canada can truly be whole. Let's get to it, hey? God bless all.

It's OK for a man to weep, nothing wrong with that. We'll all miss Gord Downie, no doubt. For Gord, weeping is allowed.

Sad to lose a Canadian Icon. He was a legend. Pleased he's not around to feel the hurt from you destroying a great country.

As an American with a father born in Winnipeg and raised in Vancouver (he died in 1980) I began to research my Canadian roots, and ironically enough, it took a guy from Buffalo to introduce me to the Hip in 1993/94 (ish). I immediately fell in love with their sound, but more to Gords voice, and lyrics which as everyone knows is basically musical poetry. I have followed them to this very day and even watched their final concert in Kingston. Gord is the quintessential Canadian....kind hearted, open, embodies the very essence of the word love. I know it sounds cliche' but like everyone else, his voice, and the music of the Hip was THE soundtrack, and forever will be. Gord, sometime in the future, I hope they name a day after you in Canada.

Me back in 2017: "What kind of psychopath doesn't wipe the tears from his eyes while he's talking to people?"
Me in 2022: "... Oh, I see... "

Gord Downie was a Canadian icon. He told the story of Canada, its people, and its history's through song that no other poet will ever be able to match. His music was a beautiful medley of raw emotion and rhythmic style that taught all of us the story of our wonderful nation. As an immigrant, his music introduced me to a piece of Canadiana that had to be experienced and was not teachable in any school or classroom. His music will always live inside me as a Canadian

What's with all the dislikes? Justin Trudeau was incredibly genuine here.

There is nothing wrong with displaying one’s humanity at a time like this and saying “It hurts”. Gord was his friend. Anti-Trudeau remarks should be posted elsewhere - show some respect for Gord at least.

Too bad Trudeau doesn't have the same devotion to Canada as Gord Downie had.

This is the emotion that we are all feeling and no one should condemn a man for feeling grief for a friend. This isn't an act. This is grief and I'm feeling it too. Gord is only two years my junior. I've known his music all of my life. This is the hardest week ever for a Hip fan like me and I can only imagine what his family and friends are going through right now. Keep your negativity for political pages. This is not about that.

Gord Downie was a musician...Canadian musician...Yes, he touched lives but so did other fantastic musicians...Oscar Peterson, Moe Koffman, Rita Macneil !...Gord brought us all together as Canadians with his passion and musicianship. We mourn his Loss..but...BUT: Trudeau's "Eulogy" is as phony as a three dollar bill...Did he cry when he decided to alter the tax structure, thereby causing hurt to many of our citizens? Make No Mistake: Our "Prime Minister" is a fine actor who measures our country's grief alongside his own political him the next time our country suffers a natural disaster regionally or when one of our Armed Forces members suffers a grievous injury or worse..Watch him cry then..watch him cry at any LOCAL calamity :Not Going To Happen. Why? Because He Doesn't Have To!

Telegphed like everything else he says.Sad that Gord died young. Also sad that Peter Pan used it as a political moment. Hey socks, can you name 3 Hip songs?
