Prime minister says Canada is 'less as a country' after death of frontman from brain cancer aged 53. Trudeau struggles to hold back tears as he describes Downie, whom he embraced before the Tragically Hip's final gig in August 2016, as his and everyone's friend Gord Downie, Tragically Hip frontman, dies of cancer aged 53

He had to make a comment because he is our Prime Minister and we lost a national treasure. It does not matter who was PM when this happened, they would have had to make a comment. They were also friends and this touched him as it did us all. Anyone saying this is political, I say shame on you because you are making it political. This was our PM, like him or hate him, speaking about the passing of a Canadian icon and a friend. Negative comments on this thread need to find some other outlet. It is not here. As for re-election, that's the beauty of democracy. Vote with your pencil and not your keyboard.

Guys show some respect to Gordon and shut up. We just lost a musician a great man and someone who had such a compassion for Canada. If you say that Trudeau is overreacting then why did you even make a comment
this Aswell as watching it

As much as I can’t stand Trudeau this was heartfelt. One of the best speeches of his whole time as PM

I think the people saying he's acting are just sensing the political acting that's taking place.  The part of him that's consciously trying to put the right impression across, deliver a meaningful speech, but I think his tears are real and his emotions are overriding whatever intentional impression or sadness he's trying to put across.

I like Trudeau, just do not like the Liberals.

I'd have no problem if he made a statement on facebook/twitter etc and left the tears for a later date. But hey, it's the Trudeau show, and a photo op where he doesn't dare brush a tear away is too hard to pass up.

So emotional.
This is your leader Canada?

Jesus Christ.

Isn’t he an ex-drama teacher as well?
Really pulling at the heartstrings.. almost like the more you emphasize with people, the more they like you.

-Even if you allow ex-ISIS members refuge in your country.
