How Much Do Underwater Welders Get Paid?

Показать описание
How much do Underwater Welders actually get paid?
This is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. You may be operating on an oil rig in the north sea one month and then salvaging a shipwreck hundreds of metres underwater the next.
All of this comes with huge risks from underwater explosions, electric shocks, decompression sickness to drowning. Many publications and injury law firms state the death rate in the job is a whopping 15%.
It’s not an easy job to get either, often requiring you to be an apprentice welder for years, gaining experience in the industry and then completing a series of diving certifications. All of this will take anywhere from around 4 to 8 years to complete.
This seems absurdly high but if the real number is anything close to this then it’s a job reserved for those with huge Kahooners.
So with all this risk to life, you must be getting paid a fortune right?
Well not really, in the UK the average salary for an underwater welder is around £70,000 a year with more experienced welders making up to around £120,000. That’s definitely not a bad salary but not so sure it’s worth the risks, but what do you think?
