All these experts on dog training. Imagine a 125lbs Cane Corso that never wore a collar until age 20 months and able to be a service dog in 2 months. I've even taken her into a store off leash. Used a prong collar and got almost instant results. Could save a dogs life, from darting into traffic, attacking another dog or person. My girl is now sleeping with me, her head on my lap. No love lost because of the prong collar.

I started with a 3.0 and it was too big. Because of the link size, I couldn't get the whole collar fitted properly to the neck. I switched to a .225 a few months ago now and bought 4 extra links, used 3 and it fits much better. My corrections hit home better and I don't have to use as much power to get his attention. Proper fitting and gauge is paramount. One thing I found was on the piece to connect the leash, mine has the swivel and my leash clip kept coming off it somehow (it's pretty thin) so I added a small chain link extension and it works perfectly.

I had to add a link back to my dog’s prong because the snugness wouldn’t allow the chain to move (no martingale effect). It was like I was using the dead ring. Yet now the collar is too big. Any suggestions? Using a 2.25 Curogan Sprenger; dog is 60-lbs and has a short coat.

I had a trainer once who wanted me to use a prong collar; I refused to use one. There are better ways than inflicting pain. I am not a fan of the prong collar. It is not humane, in my opinion.
