Flying American and United 737 MAX - How Airlines Are Bringing the MAX Back?

I recently flew with United on their B737 MAX 9 and American on their B737 MAX 8, on domestic flights within the US. This video details the flying experiences of the 737 MAX since its grounding.

My United 737 MAX 9 flight was from Miami to Houston. The pilots talked about the cockpit of the 737 MAX, the MCAS and the system in general. I review the MAX passenger cabin and speak about my thoughts on flying the 737 MAX.

My American 737 MAX 8 flight was a quick one from Orlando to Miami. I met up with aviation journalist Chris Sloan in Miami. He flew the first 737 MAX flight, since its grounding in the US, on an American B737 MAX 8 from Dallas to Tulsa. He visited American Airlines Maintenance and Engineering Centre in Tulsa. Pilots of American talked about how they were trained to fly the MAX with the updated cockpit software and the MCAS system. The engineers talked about how long it takes to update each MAX and re-activate the plane from grounding.

Chris also shares his stories from behind the scenes, on how Boeing was rushed by customers to build the MAX instead of a producing clean sheet narrow body airplane.

The fact that the MCAS system only used one sensor is an incredibly stupid oversight. First rule of aircraft engineering is redundancy. That lesson was learned decades ago.

In the interview while describing the new bigger screens in the cockpit, the pilot said “ for us older people that are vis..” then cut by short laugh (probably thinking of saying visually impaired) came to realize..”wait i should not say i am visually impired or i will lose my certification” hahaha.

Any flight with the 737 Max where you don't die is smooth.

I’m confident that Boeing is giving them very deep discounts.

I just hope that Boeing and the NTSB learned from their mistakes. What happened never should have happened.

ive been following ur videos and watching you for a while and its good to bring out this video. im gunna be going to canada on friday morning from orlando to toronto and i will be flying on the MAX 8, when i found that out i freaked out a bit but after watching this video and having the plane go to the american airlines service center and talk to the pilots and the engineers about the MAX and took a test flight there and everything went good and i really liked the changes that boeing did and i really liked that the crew told the guests the changes that happened and explained. and as of 2024 i mean yea you had a blown door at the beginning of this year but no fatal incident since 2019 so im a bit more comfortable about friday now. thanks Sam ur videos are awesome and very informative.

I really appreciate your message at the end, Sam. While it is good to see the Max flying again, I personally am still a little hesitant and will give it a year or 2 before purposefully flying one again (I know there's a chance I could fly on one due to a schedule shift or it being the only option). You presented a good video to let people make the decision that feels right to them.

I just had a flight with a 737 8 Max two days ago and it was pretty smooth. The same plane I flew with is 3 months old and conducts 4 flights daily and nothing happened so far. The problem with the Max was the MCAS which was fixed and now all pilots receive special training for the system. It’s normal to feel a bit scared considering what happened and how easily Boeing let it happen, but it’s hard to believe the planes are not safe now. If something happens the odds are to happen when you fly a 737-800 too as those aircrafts are maybe 20 years old.

It's not gonna be easy to restore the confidence of the travellers in flying this aircraft but thanks to your video, at least it gives some informations to the people that it is already safe to fly. Flydubai also started flying MAX here in Dubai. Hope to see you onboard Mr. Sam. Our family loves your videos.😍

For an airplane that has returned to active service after 2 years of being banned from flying, it does take time for public trust in it to recover and fly safely. So, the Boeing 737 MAX still has a long way to go to get their hearts to fly with them. Time will tell about it...

I’m sure that it will be one of the safest aircraft in the skies now. Boeing’s reputation and business is on the line. I would have no problem flying on one.
