Learn Greek: Οι πτώσεις | The Cases: Use and Syntax | How to decline words

The cases (οι πτώσεις) are very important in Greek. They are special forms that we apply to nouns, adjectives, articles, pronouns and passive participles, in order to change their role in a sentence.

There are four cases in Modern Greek
Ονομαστική - Nominative
Γενική - Genitive
Αιτιατική - Accusative
Κλητική - Vocative

In this video you'll learn when and how to use each case, and how to decline nouns in Modern Greek.

To complete your knowledge about the cases you'll also have to study the grammar around them. The act of changing the case of a word is called declension (κλίση).

Declinable words (nouns and adjectives) are divided in groups, depending on their endings in the nominative case. Each group has different rules of declension and different endings.
