When I make things it's not about cheating the system it is about the achievement that comes with learning new skills and being a creator instead of just a consumer

This really really bothers me. Yes some steel requirements highly specialized equipment to heat treat and temper. But not all steels do, and there are resources to learn how to pick out a steel for your application and how to treat it. Furthermore it's really lame for a company that sells tools to encourage people to not aquire heat treatment tools or learn to use the tools they have. Tool ownership shouldn't just be about owning tools but about learning to work with them and understand them better.

Also I have worked multiple factory jobs, and we are not magicians, it might take some practice and reading but if we can do it you can do it!

“So soft the edge folds over when cutting” really hit me hard bro 😭

It does not cost thousands of dollars it’s literally heating the metal to a specific temperature and quenching it in oil I’ve done it with a campfire and vegetable oil it works fine

It doesn't cost a lot of money at all dude. It is extremely easy to get setup with blacksmithing stuff.

I'm a blacksmith, and it would be nice to have all the proper equipment, but my simple gas forge (my coal works too) and (when I have the extra funds to get it) quench oil works just fine. You can use canola oil in a pinch, but its not the best. Motor oil will work, but it stinks, and probably shouldn't be breathed in. Then temper it. Look up a color chart, and practice. But I see that sales pitch... lol. Nice work man.

But yeah, with a little bit of research, check out temp tables, and specs, it can be done.

Great clip. Shows exactly what's to be gained or lost due to heat treat.

Do your own blacksmithing, dont depend on folks that want to make you think you cant do it so you pay them to do it for you

You basically just said don't get into knife making you don't know what the hell you're doing. Nice message, guys.

Yeah, I’m good. I’m going to order my knives from Amazon or the manufacturer. The shipping you guys charge is egregious. The only reason I’m subscribed to this channel is to find new knives to buy.

You dont have to buy thousands in equipment but you would have to get lessons in heat treatment it wont be the same as one that had alot of equipment but itll be hard and you can still make a good blade

I encourage all of you to learn how to make your own blades. Start with stock removal, cheap and easy also doesn’t require many tools. But if possible get into forging blades and learn blacksmithing all together because not only is it fun and exciting, it is also a very practical skill set to have.

When me and my dad made a couple knives, we just used a plumber’s blowtorch and some bricks to create a little makeshift oven. I mean we literally just stacked the bricks in a sorta semi square, there was nothing to it.

After we heat treated, we tempered in the toaster oven to bring it back a little less brittle. I imagine my dad, knowing him, picked out a steel that this works fine enough for.

You can heat treat 1095 with a blow torch and vegetable oil!and get a good hard edge and put in a toaster oven for 2 hours to temper it and boom a usable outdoor knife

I couldn’t imagine buying non heat treated steel and thinking you won 😂.

There are 80 dollar forges that can easily get up to temperature to forge and heat treat. Not to mention that you can make a forge yourself for less than 100 bucks, add 120 bucks for some basic tools and an aditional 80 for an angle grinder and drill, and you are ready to start making good knives. Not pretty, but useful tools.

Why is bro discouraging people from making their own knives, it most deffinetly does not take thousands of dollars, a simple forge costs 200$ and oil is in your kitchen, a long with a basic oven for tempering

Idk guys as someone that started making knives with household tools it's not that hard. 1095 is a beginner steel heat up then quench in oil then pop in an oven for a couple hours and boom done.
