How to easily sew an applique onto a garment - not just for mending!

Applique is when we layer a fashion fabric ON TOP of the main fabric and sew it on to create layers and interest.

This technique is easy to do.
Steps:
1. Iron interfacing to the back of the fabric that will be layered on top. Cut to the desired shape.
2. Attach the fabric onto the main fabric. A regular glue stick works great for this.
3. Sew along the outer perimeter of the fabric. A zigzag or other edge stitch works great.

Because this creates layers of fabric, the finished design is a bit more sturdy than reverse applique, and the final result is less stretchy.

This can be done to patch a hole or cover a stubborn stain - or just to add visual interest.
