One the exothermic reaction is done, it’s done. You can’t make something react again after it has completely combined with the oxygen.

No it doesn’t work like that. If your hand warmer is only good 4-6 hours tops unless you buy the big xl ones using them for 2 hours then putting them a ziplock bag will still cause the oxidation reaction to happen slowly bleeding off your hand warmer. Go buy a thermal gun and test it yourself. We did this in chemistry class for a intro 107 as freshman college students. We had to state our hypothesis then guess how much heat would be able to be generated 2 and 3 time. It’s not even close to being worthwhile when in you factor in the cost of the 80 cent hand warmers when you buy in bulk. You lose 50 percent of initial heat for second use after using for only 2 hours.

This doesn't work unless you bag the hand warmer while it is still warm.
I usually get most of the warming effect and don't remove them from my gloves or socks until they are mostly "used up" and cold.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's some bad advice because the air activated hand warmers are one time use only

No, every penny in fact DOES NOT count lol. Sometimes it’s just easier to buy another

Dan you should put out a video on how to choose hiking boots

If it's cooled, it's done. Will not reheat

Also, put your toe warmers on top of your socks on the tops of your feet. They get more oxygen and keep your tooties warmer

Ziplock bags are no longer impermeable by air. They will expire inside the ziplock. Place the warmers in an opsac.

They make electronic hand warmers there pretty cool and they last a few hours on a single charge

Wait! This doesn’t work if they’ve gone cold though, right? They still have to have some warmth left in them when sealing them, correct?

Sometimes you just can’t get out and get more of them when you’re out in the bush. I get that. But you can also get the kind made with sodium acetate crystals, that you could just heat and reuse while you’re having your lunch.

But you know what use those disposable things out, I wonder what would happen if A person were to vacuum seal them into a little bag. Would that reactivate them?

Zip lock bags are not air tight so it's better to use vacuum sealed bags.

I actually thrown mine in a mylar bag and add one 500cc oxygen absorber

Yeah that doesn't work unfortunately tried that several times years ago

Wow. Basic chemistry, these things react until they’re spent. Yes they last quite a few hours and I guess it may be possible to slow down the reaction but I doubt a zip lock would do much. But who opens one of these for two hours and then tries to save it? For how long? Sorry, this is bullshit, plain and simple.

Great tip! How do you activate them? it says it takes 15 mins :/

Zip lock bags are more expensive than hand warmers 😂 pretty darn close anyway
