hi ! using a hw 221 level shifter, cant communicate arduino mega to esp32, done everything according to the adafruit video, but nothing . if i change mega voltage regulator to 3.3 willl it work?

Hi, for connecting ESP32 to Arduino Mega small form factor version like in this example, a voltage divider or a logic level shifter will not work? Is modifying the Arduino to 3.3V necessary for this to work? I have been trying to communicate by serial an ESP32 DevKitV1 to an Arduino Mega small form factor version, and I can receive data from the Arduino but I cannot transmit it to the Arduino from the ESP32. I already tried a logic level shifter but it doesn't work. I'd appreciate your help a lot. I can donate in XMR, BTC, BCH.
