In New York, the arrival of more than 100,000 migrants seeking asylum over the past year has become a crisis for the city’s shelter system, schools and budget.

As another critical election season begins to take shape, Nicholas Fandos, who covers New York State politics for The Times, explains why the situation has also become a political crisis for the state’s Democratic leaders.

Del Rio, Texas, is a city of about 35, 000 people. Two years ago this month more than 14, 000 Haitian immigrants moved in. New York City has a population of about 8 million. To have a "crisis" equal to Del Rio's 3, 200, 000 immigrants would need to arrive in NYC in one week.

I'm glad that New York is dealing with this issue. It's easy to say that there is not a problem with immigration until it shows up in your backyard.... Welcome to the problems that all the border states have been dealing with for years.

Greg Abbott made one of the single greatest political moves in recent memory. Simply brilliant. Democrat mayors, governors, and scores of other politicians are completely stumped and have no answer

NYC Mayor told them to come. Now he’s whining and blaming Texas instead of jb. Just can’t make this stuff up.

Imagine Texas had been dealing with migrants problem silently. But a sanctuary city mayor takes the stage and cries like a baby for one tenth of what the border states are dealing with.

#SanctuaryCityWoes
You wanted to be sanctuary cities, you are getting what you voted for.

Migrants have become monetized.

Hundreds of millions given to housing and service providers in no-bid contracts.

With all that money sloshing around, where's the incentive to reform the system?

Make sure you get out there and vote. It takes more than 1 vote to win an election. These politicians spend your money and if you didn’t vote, you have no right to complain.

Keep sending them to the most liberal and wealthy areas. How about few thousand to Jackson Hole, Wyoming ? More for Martha's Vineyard ! How about Georgetown, DC...and do not forget "The Hamptons".

"Piped out?" The issue pushed into suburbia, no piping in needed. Voters can see whats happening for themselves. Local politicians are articulating concerns of their own constituents.

And someone will say the NYT is a balanced publication

I'm not as educated or sophisticated as big city politicians, state or federal "leadership" so maybe that's why I don't understand the immediate problem or how it came to be such a problem. I'm just a rancher's wife from the Texas Hill Country, but say I have a beautiful yacht, huge yacht and I was having a great big party and somebody hollered "The boats a takin' in water!", or however yacht folks say they're sinkin', I think, if I was in charge, that instead of trying to force everybody on board to drink more of the water pouring in, I believe the first thing I'd do would be to plug up the hole that's letting in the water. But that's just me.
Then we would start putting the water back where it came from.

Your tones are so calming, condescending, and patronizing at the same time. I won’t be back for more, thank you.

It's happening in Illinois also. I feel for these poor people but when you hear they were in other "safe countries" 1st before illegally entering...its hard to stay compassionate.
