R.i.p Tom sizemore. I am really sorry that he passed away. He was one of the best supporting actors in Hollywood in my opinion.

My dad landed in Normandy as part of the 29th division. He survived all the way thru to the end, He is my special hero. This song really makes my emotions overflow. God bless all of the Patriots who fought in this war and all of the other conflicts both the survivors and the dead.

What our soldiers who landed on Omaha Beach accomplished was beyond bravery, courage, and sacrifice to country. Heroism personified!

It will be a sad day when John Williams is no longer around to grace us with his amazing music.

My dad and I took a trip to France last year and Normandy was the last place we went to on the trip. We walked along the shore of Omaha Beach and followed tide as it went out. We walked for about an hour and were almost 600 yards away from the seawall. Standing near the water and seeing the cliffs beyond the seawall made, it really make you wonder how our guys managed to cover all that ground with machine gun fire coming from all angles of the cliffs with virtually no cover except for the log posts, log ramps, mines, steel beam hedgehogs and Belgian gate obstacles all designed to sink boats and landing craft, prevent tanks from getting far on the beach and causing max casualties on infantry. Seeing the beach on screen is one thing, but seeing the beach in person and seeing the Omaha Beach Cemetery near by is another. Seeing these places in person changes you and you develop a deeper understanding, appreciation and respect for all those young men who laid down their lives.
My granddad landed in on Omaha Beach, in his case it was about three days after the invasion. Walking on that beach got me thinking about him and wonder how he coped with his experience because he almost never talked about his time in the war and I didn't learn about his service until after he passed.

I shall never forget seeing this in the theater. When they panned over the beach after the battle showing all the dead the WWII vets next to me sobbed openly and unashamed. I cried with them. Never forget what this nation asks of its warriors. They will live with that pain for eternity.

I served in the US Navy from 1984 to 1990. Until the day I die, I will always say that although I serviced with pride, I didn't do enough. I think I speak for all Veterans. We all served, knowing we could be asked to pay The Fullest Measure.

On June 6th, 2016, I biked with a small group from Bayeau to Pointe du Hoc and then on to Omaha Beach. The emotions I experienced that day cannot ever be explained. My mother was a captain in the Army Nurse Corp and served as a 24 year old R.N. throughout the Pacific Theatre with her, unknown to her at the time, last stop in Okinawa. She could never tell me the horrors she saw and the atocities. She always told me she fully expected to die with the imminent invasion of Japan that would have killed hundreds of thousands. But my mom survived and helped fight for a polio cure in Cleveland later in the 1940's and then became the Directress of Nursing at a cancer hospital for over twenty five years outside Philadelphia. In 1995, I did something for her and took her one August night to Cape May (NJ) Airport and introduced to the honoree that evening, Colonel Paul Tibbetts, the man responsible for saving her life fifty years prior.

As a child born in the Fifties, it was common for us boys to play army every Saturday...carrying our cap guns and wearing our plastic helmets. Vietnam changed everything. It was not a “popular “ war if such a thing is possible. But until Saving Private Ryan...I never fully grasped the brutal reality of those men on those beaches on June 6, 1944. History must never forget their sacrifices to give his our freedom, and end world tyranny.

Many of these soldiers were young men who left their homes and families to die in horrific circumstances in a strange place they had only known for a very short time. How terrifying that must have been.
Whenever I think about that it I feel that we must never forget the enormity of their sacrifices.
