I was always intrigued by the fake screen they'd put on those demo units. Those gradients always looked really appealing.

Ahh. The classic loud game boy's static audio. I bet nintendo did the one mono speaker and limited the volume just so that the static wouldn't be that noticable.

I have a pair of stereo speakers for my GBA-SP made by a company called inTec that have slightly larger housing while actually connecting to both ports on the back of the SP. The speakers hinge upwards to the screen and both ports are replicated on the back so neither of the ports are blocked allowing for simultaneous charging, game-link and stereo sound.

"When would you ever want it that loud? You only play it like a foot away from your face."

I had a near identical one here in the US as a kid. I specifically wanted louder speakers on my gameboy so I went to target and they had stuff like this.
I was playing SuperStar Saga and the game glitched and froze, and it popped both the speakers with the glitch buzz instantly.

This reminds me of the game kit I got for my SP back in the day. Came with a radio adaptor thing. I could listen to music while I was catching Pokémon!!!!

Nintendo, 1983: we're gonna make a console that plugs into a TV set that likely has two speakers and make it mono only
Nintendo, 1989, 1998, 2001: we're gonna make a handheld console with stereo audio but only put one speaker on it

There where even wireless 900Mhz Stereo headphones for the GBA SP that also doubled as a very basic FM radio with a digital tuner, they were from a company called Game Elements, I had a pair, and they worked alright for the time with the adapter for the headphones even allowing you to charge while you played, but eventually they did stop working after several years sadly.

One way to play stereo on gba games is to use a Nintendo ds, or gameboy reader.

Ive personally used both methods and you can REALLY hear the difference.
Your pokemon will attack and the left speaker will make a sound, and than when the enemy attacks itll be the right side speaker.
So cool
