How to a Setup Static IP Address on Linux using Netplan with ROUTES

preview_player
Показать описание
Setup a Static IP Address with Netplan on Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS or other Linux distros. Netplan has started using Routes instead of Gateway4. This can be used with any other Linux Distro that uses Netplan.

By default Ubuntu and most Linux distributions will assign an IP Address dynamically using a DHCP Server.

Nice video, thank you! I just wonder how that deeper indentation with DNS addresses passed through "try" step, if it's said to be important...

What happens if I want a static IP address over Wifi? do I still type "ethernet:" or do I type something like "wifi:"?

This worked like a charm, but with one hiccup for me. "dhcp4: no" did not work for me. After I applied the new netplan settings, when I tried to run a VPN, it connected but I would lose Internet access. I modified the file to say "dhcp4: false" instead, saved the configuration, and now everything is working as it should be.

What does setting a particular DNS server address do? I have not deliberately set up a DNS Server with my device. Should I still list these addresses in my configuration file?

Thanks. I am new to this.

It doesn't work for me. I get about 10 errors and warnings and this: " Command '['systemctl', 'start', 'NetworkManager.service']' returned non-zero exit status 5". I also get several warnings like this: WARNING **: 21:14:04.894: Permissions for are too open. Netplan configuration should NOT be accessible by others".
It's the 3rd video I've watched and though they have miner differences I alwats get the same results
Can someone re-direct me to a newer video so I can get this thing right?
I have Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS

I do not like netplan. It won't let me define the routes I want to use.
