I'm from Taiwan, and I'm not Chinese(nationality).
The word "Chinese" has multiple meanings:
1.race - yes, most Taiwanese are Chinese race.
2.language - yes, Chinese language is the official language in Taiwan.
3.culture - yes, a PART of Taiwanese culture originates from south east China.
4. institution - NO ! BIG NO ! CAPITAL NO! Taiwan is a democratic country with it's own :
people(citizen of Taiwan),
sovereignty (Commi China's interior policies have NEVER reached to Taiwan EVER in history.),
government (R.O.C. - the legacy of Chinese civil war, still running in Taiwan, with the president VOTED BY PEOPLE DIRECTLY ),
territory (Taiwan main island, Kinmen island, Matsu island, Penghu island...etc.)
Also, we have our own:
currency - NTD => not RMB
constitution - R.O.C. constitution. (chinese civil war legacy though) => not China's constitution.
military system - we use NATO weapons sold by U.S. .=> not Warsaw weapons.
We also have mature social movements in Taiwan. Liberty of speech is guaranteed in Taiwan.
CENSORSHIP is NOT ALLOWED in Taiwan.
We respect, protect and even PROTEST for other people's human right, and the right of protest is also guaranteed in our constitution.

Beijing government can only boycott the FACT of Taiwanese independence by diplomatic manners.
Countries around the world don't want to offend China(not even U.S.) because China is one of the super powers in the world/
People accept political propaganda of China, and neglect the truth that we are not a part of China regime.
(See the trick of the word "Chinese" now? one can say that Taiwanese culture shares "a part of Chinese culture", but Taiwan, the country, is definitely independent from CHINESE GOVERNMENT, IT"S NOT EVEN A BRANCH. That's why I said "we're not Chinese(nationality).")

Let me ask you a question, people of U.S.A. :
We all now that those people who established U.S. nowadays came from England about 250 years ago.
You speak English, you have blood connection with people in England, a part of you're culture came from England.
Do all these things all together make you a "holy, inseparable part of UK" ?
If so, the largest country on earth nowadays should still be UK, which includes US, Canada, Australia, India and any other nations that speak English, have blood connection with UK and celebrate Christmas.

The independence of Taiwan is far different from independence of Hong Kong, Tibet or Xinjiang, and probably different from most independent issues in the world.
Because we are not "leaving China", Taiwan has NEVER been a part of territory of Commi China's regime.
What we need is the "recognition" of being a country independent from China.
Like I said, we even have our own national defense and regular military forces.

The only reason why Taiwanese basically remains silence even now is due to the military and economic threat from China.
