FIFA president Gianni Infantino's comments about African migrants have been described as "completely unacceptable" by Kick It Out chief executive Tony Burnett.

Infantino controversially referenced migrants risking drowning in the Mediterranean during a speech to the Council of Europe on Wednesday, as he spoke about the global benefits of FIFA plans to reform the international calendar which include a proposal for biennial men's and women's World Cups.

I don't know whether I don't understand well English because I am from a French speaking country. What I heard when I watched him in tv news is : hosting world cup every two years will save lives of African drowning in Mediterranean.
My message to the FIFA president is :
African countries are not poor as you make us believe every time .African countries don't need money from outside to improve the lives of people and prevent migrations .African countries only need good leaders, not western puppets.

Where is the concern for African workers in Qatar dying to build a work cup they accepted for the money? The only reason they want more World Cups is for more money and power.

Look at this clown pretending it's not for financial reasons to get the World Cup on every 2 years... Greed knows no bounds. 😤

It's a tale as old as time... "people! Give us, the rich people, more money and as a result everyone, even the poor will benefit!"

Nice statement by Kick it Out. Biennial World cup is just for profit making for Fifa.

A salesman is supposed to spin a story, that's fine and you may exaggerate a bit, but lesson nr 1: keep it real.

The World Cup will not change despotic governments in Africa, nor will it change the fact that people will migrate. He's using the lives of African people to justify his greed and the greed of his associates.

This brings Fifa into even more disrepute. His words are not only offensive, they're wrong. Does he view Africa as a migrant continent or something?

Football is very powerful & has stopped wars before but this is a far stretch & the way Gianni said it was just so disrespectful, ignorant & literally racist. He could of said it in another way but he randomly comes out with "we need to give Africans opportunity & stop them from travelling" how is an extra world cup every 2 years gonna do that? Wtf is this? I've never heard anything like this in my entire life I swear

Utterly pathetic comments from Infantino, he doesn't give a fiddlers about African migrants if he did he'd offer some of them a chance to stay in his house. It's ridiculous to compare a real life scenario like people trafficing and migration with something as completely trivial as the world cup (and in the grand scheme of things it is) .

I am totally fed up with football "leaders" telling us that their game will improve the fate of the poor etc. We've been hearing this b...s... for decades. It's all about money and profits for corrupt officials. It is not, and will never be, about philanthropy.

its statistically proven that FIFA tournaments don't benefit host countries. FIFA makes most of the profits and has an enormous 'reserve' that should be illegal for an organization that claims to be 'non-profit'

He acknowledges Africans are good in football and it can be a way of giving the talents a chance. Good statement wrong choice of words

And if they invested in charity, the charity would only use 10% and keep 90% for themselves as they always do
