What about single letters that make different sounds? S says Sss and ZZZ, vowels make multiple sounds too. When do you suggest adding in those other sounds?

Man I wish I could afford your program! This is exactly what I have been searching for my little children. I hope one day you put this all in a single book that we can afford. I'm sure it's worth the price if you got the money.

In Read Write Inc phonics these are known as "special friends". When you move onto split digraphs e.g. "a-e" as in make/cake then you can say that "they are special friends at school and were moved away from each other in class for chatting. That's why there is a sound between them."

Children need so much time and patience. I think a lot of people don't think about that, that this also a part of them growing up. You have to teach them how to pronounce, to read and to write.

How do you explain "pain" and "said" one has the strong a sound and the other has a soft e sound? This is when my son starts memorizing words.
