A student from China’s southern city of Guangzhou nearly missed getting to his gaokao college entrance exam because he was locked inside his home. Rescuers managed to free him just in time to join the millions of students across the country who started sitting this year’s edition of the gruelling tests on June 7, 2022. The usual challenges of the gaokao have only deepened this year. The class of 2022 is also known as the “pandemic generation”, because they are the first students to have gone through all three years of China's high school curriculum amid Covid-19 disruptions. Challenges have included having to bounce between online and in-person classes and adapting to frequent coronavirus testing, lockdowns and sudden classroom closures.

Those rescuers didn't just save this person's exam, they potentially saved his future

This is probably the most nerve-wracking incident you can get yourself in that would prevent you from taking an exam.

The rescuers even gave him a nice and fast ride! Imagine the looks of other examiners when they saw him getting out of the Vehicle 😂 Flex 💪

"Back in my days I had to be rescued to sit my exams."
This guy has a story to tell his grand kids.

You can tell how grateful they were from merely just their bows.
Hope he does well in his exams :)

So glad I'm done with school. I can imagine how brutal it is to be a highschool student in China.

It's crazy how China is so set in their ways. I read novels that take place in imperial china now and then. These Gaokao exams remind me of the Civil service exams that scholars took between 650 BC - 1905. Only those in the top that passed would be appointed as beurocrats in the chinese government. These exams could take up to 70+ hours and students would be put in a cell. Some would die during the exam, officials would just discard the bodies. There were three rounds they had to pass. The local exam, the regional exam, and then the national exam. If I remember correctly you could only take the exam every three years (? - could be wrong) so scholars would rush to pass while they were young so they'd have more time to climp up the ladder. Being able to be appointed as a beurocrat was really the only way to get out of being a commoner. Interesting stuff~ lol don't mind me, have a ton of stuff to do but procrastinating.

Goodluck to all the students. Even if the results are not what you expect please remember this is just one event in your life.
Edit: people I'm Asian, I understand the importance of education and the situation in China. I don't think people understand what I'm trying to say. As much as the gaokao or high school exam rules your life, it is not more important than being alive. A student 2 years above me commited suicide at the start of the final high school exam, and every year at this time there are spikes in teenage suicides no matter which country you are in. The unhinged pressure placed on students are literally killing them but people don't learn, it's not acceptable to say "that's just the way it is". We have a saying in viet "còn thở còn gở" meaning you still have a fighting chance as long as you're still breathing. There is nothing more final than death and people really need to contribute to changing the national psyche if you want to save the future generations.

I feel like someone intensionally put the lock there. Why on THAT day. Why not on ANOTHER DAY.

I hate that any country has an exam that determines so much of someone's future. A test can't predict how well someone does in university because there are too many unknown variables.

As someone living in india, I'm going to appear for JEE exam, which is an equivalent to gaokao in China. I csn understand how relieved the kid must be

Sometimes a stressful situation like this before another stressful situation (in this case, taking an exam) will diffuse the stress of the second situation. It sounds crazy, but it’s true.

In my country, students aren't that pressured to passed an exam similar to this for a competitive society but i guess my country had the highest qualifications for an applicant because even if they're hiring dishwasher in a restaurant, it has to be a college graduate 😂😂😂😂
