If you are paying $.05 for a bag reuse it. For example, MTA charge a $1.00 for a new metrocards because people were throwing away metrocards. This will make people reuse those bags. We are a country who like to waste stuff so we have to make this change. This isn't about your convenience it is about your environment.

What people don't know is that they was never recycled plastic program. They were just shipping plastic to third world countries to handle they plastic problem. The problem is that these countries aren't equipped to deal with all the plastic that was being shipped them. So they started sending the plastic back to the U.S. Now you know why they is a ban.

I live in Europe and I always bring my own bags, I’m kind of surprised that people are still so reliant on plastics bags

They did this in Austin tx and other Texas cities in 2013. The "ban" was lifted in 2018. This was response from some city leaders...

On Monday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent letters to 11 cities and towns in the state with bag bans, telling them their ordinances are "illegal" and "unenforceable".
I'm sure a lot of New Yorkers felt like a lot of Texans stating that it was " ridiculous"! I also had some what of the same reaction BUT, I guess anything we can do as whole community to change our view and feelings of convenience over environmental conservation could be a positive.
To quote the great Jeff goldblum😂... "Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should".

Worldwide, people use a mind-boggling 1 trillion plastic bags — including plastic retail bags — each year,  according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. US residents use more than 380 billion plastic bags and wraps yearly, the EPA reports, and only 5% of the total bags produced ever get recyled.

My conclusion about this ban. This state is going broke, businesses are closing in the city, or leaving to another state and the only way for the state to make up the lost revenue is to pass this dumb law. It's like Canada making J-walking illegal.

Only in third world countries you have to come with your own bag to a store.

Wait one minute. If its a PLASTIC bag ban, why can't you switch over to the old school PAPER bags? No charge for the paper bags and people happen to recycle them.

i guess i need to buy a 50 gallon bag to clean my car... now that the smaller "single use" bags are not available ... SMART.

We have used reusable canvas bags for years. Not really for environmental reasons, you can put more stuff in the canvas bags.

this video did not mention reusable bags at all, which is the real solution.
