The most important one not discussed is play what makes you happy. If you want to play a hippie empire bent on befriending everyone around you, do it. If you want to try to murderhobo your way to the end date, do it. The worst thing a casual player can do is try to take advice from minmaxers when they don't intend to play that way. Remember who your advice is coming from, because I doubt this will be the only video new players see if they happen to watch this first.

One tip I think might be worth noting, is that attrition can work. Don't try to win a war by doing a Jutland and crashing all your fleets into all the enemy. Draw them into your systems and try to break them up, you can give ground and it is often very effective. Even if you think you should be winning tactics are a useful thing to think about. Also you probably want to kill a fallen empire at some point as they often have cool tech nice planets....

Thanks for the advice - awesome first thing not to do - do not attack Fallen Empires, I learnt that quit early after I Attacked them once or twice. When I first started to play Stellaris

I gotta disagree a bit on #4 with the way the new immigration system works. More open jobs gives you more immigration pull. You're paying a lot up front in upkeep for empty buildings but are also playing the long game by growing your pop count much higher than the other empires, dwarfing them and making their economy of scale inconsequential compared to yours.

This is only relevant if you're open to migration of course (which most people are)

if you anger a fallen empire early on and let them smash your fleet that's all they'll do and then you get some crazy techs from the debris

I always attack fallen empires, but I wait until my fleet is roughly equivalent and then turn on the edicts making it even better. Gotta have those dark matter techs.
