Damn that’s an excellent explanation of opening the guard. flaring the heel out and then posting your foot makes so much more sense than just spreading your knees apart and pushing the thigh down

Wow! Mind-blowing explanation of opening the guard. We were always taught to gather the grips then tuck the knee behind the tailbone. This narrows your base and makes it easier to be off balanced and swept. Sliding the knee out first established your base, THEN tucking the other knee under the tailbone secured the wedge to be able to flare the heel and pry back to break the legs open. Unbelievable! It feels like I just found the proper translation to an ancient scripture. This is going to completely change how I approach the ground version of the guard break.
