Self preservation is perfect way to put it.

I feel this. I have been in a cycle of meltdown followed by burnout for a very long time. I just want out of it. So bad.

I'm planning a social withdrawal this weekend. Filling my 50L pack and doing some solo hiking/camping. I'm thankful I have a wife that understands that I need to do this.

Without having an official diagnosis, it's been a real struggle to differentiate mental health symptoms from autistic traits. This description has helped a lot. Most of my past "depressive episodes" seem to have actually been burnout. I always thought it was weird that when others would describe depression, they would talk about not being able to care anymore, but for me, the caring was always too intense and that's what caused the negativity i now recognize as burnout thanks to Orion and the rest of the autistic community here. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. This is so much more valuable information than what they say in more prominent autism communities (won't mention any by name partly because they don't deserve the recognition and partly for people who are triggered by their continued existence).

I didn't understand everything he said, but I can explain what I like to do:
I see myslef as an introvert, although I love socialising at work. When I get home, all I do is prep everything so that I can sit down, alone, infront of my PC for hours. Especially after a day of hard work. Which will escalate to sitting there recovering past my bedtime. Not sure if this is the same thing but I hears "recover alone" but could be something else (I am not diagnosed)

my 3 year old niece is in school now, she is struggling with behavior…she throws a fit when it’s time to “leave” the playground and go inside the classroom *classic*. 10 points is what a child earns every day at school. For 2 weeks now, she’s earning 1 point out of 10! 😊
