In this video, I address the growing concerns about AI taking over jobs and share a message of reassurance. Drawing from historical examples of technological advancements, I emphasize that AI is a tool designed to enhance, not replace, our capabilities. I'll highlight the importance of adaptability and lifelong learning to embrace AI as an opportunity rather than a threat. Through my personal journey from programming to teaching, I'll underscore the need to pivot and adapt in an ever-evolving landscape. I'll explore the unique strengths of human creativity, critical thinking, and context comprehension, which remain irreplaceable in fields like programming and database management. Ultimately, I assure you that while AI is a powerful tool, it won't immediately disrupt your job, providing you with ample time to learn, grow, and prosper in a changing technological world.

Back in 2004 after releasing my database 1.0 for warehouse and control of the production line a colleague told me: "you just made redundant six people", Perhaps, but the process is more robust and we can focus on other improvements. Now I am starting with my run 4.0, and all the trips and tricks shown in your videos have inspired me to go beyond (the most valuable one: "don't be scared, VBA is easy). Thanks. Hopefully we will make the process more robust, and we'll be able to respond much faster to our customers' needs and requirements. As for AI, let's see how to make use of it to help us to get better.

Hey, I'm loving AI helping hand with VBA!
Jokes(!) aside, I would add that, since computers are doing the hard work, soft skills are becoming increasingly important, like good work attitude, being able to communicate with upper management...

Absolutely right, I have myself adapted and developed my skills since I started working in the late eighties. I started learning computer programming and using different software before the launch of windows office, then I started learning windows and its office suite and honed my skills accordingly, adding to it using Photoshop, and AutoCAD. Now I am 57 years old I can run a whole management office single handedly. I trained many staff who worked under my management in different groups of companies. Now few companies would hire me because I am over experienced and pose a threat to their senior management. I learned now to deal with AI and I find it quite helpful. Still I need to tweak a lot of the final AI outcome. But it helps a lot...

Great advice. Must do to at least stay relevant in this first stage. The difference in my view with current AI vs. past disruptive advancements is (1) the AI revolution seems to be happening faster and (2) affecting not just manual tasks but also what people consider creative and professional tasks.

Thank you for inspiring us and keep us not to give up. But the more I bring automation and propose to my boss, she opposes puts a lot obstacles and excuses saying this: "don't automated too much, otherwise, we lose our job security". I had to insist, extra persuade a lot for them to accept some methods I implement that would benefit my dept, other depts and the whole bldg.

Have you read that book "Humility is the new smart"? Also, what is the new jobs AI create can also be fulfilled by AI 🤔🤔?

I've been using AI to do research on architectural decisions I need to make for an application I'm developing. At this point the natural language models are helping to summarize research that I would have had to do over several days. Well there is a chance for hallucination at least it brings up the areas or topics with pros or cons then I could further examine on my own. So, at this stage, AI is a force multiplier and a bit of a senior developer in my workflow. Even with VBA.

Richard, thanks for the insightful video! Personally, I hate the term "Artificial Intelligence (AI)". It makes people think that the software is equal to human intelligence. I wish the computer science folks would come up with a better term. If an "Electronic-based Intelligence" (vice a Carbon-based Intelligence) does become sentient, its going to probably think the term AI is derogatory. And I, for one, don't want to get off on the wrong foot with our new EBI friends! 🙂

These arguments only work up to a point. The fact that technology has created jobs before does not necessarily mean that it will every time. Also, the point that 'AI can't do or isn't good at certain things yet' is far from comforting, due to that key word - 'yet'. What happens if AI and robotics eventually can do everything a human can or better? (Which is the direction AI developers are trying to take things) What then?
