Back in the early 2000's I stopped in Chicago heights at a mom and pops gas station. Being from the south it didnt dawn on me that there was no one of my color pallette in the establishment. The lady behind the counter said "Sugar you ain't from around here are you" No mam I replied. She said "You need to go on and get out of here real quick like. It's nothing personal but it isn't safe for you here. At that point it set in what she ment. I thnaked her and I left.

To the cashier lady with the bullet wound scars in the cheek and neck. I appreciate you looking out for me.

The town I grew up in was deemed by media outlets as “One of the Most Racist Towns in America” just because some dude owned a civil war memorabilia store in the tiny “downtown” area that nobody ever goes to. Even the guy who owned it was a nice guy and generally well-liked in the community. It was just a family business that got passed down to him. He wasn’t even selling racist products, a historic civil war battle happened near by and he sold artifacts from the battlefield to collectors.

The most racist town in America is Washington DC. It is a form of soft racism where "people of color" or "coloured people" are allowed a form of latitude and given a low expectation. It is a "reward"for being good and not rocking the DC money boat.
