Skoda Scala vs Hyundai i30 vs Kia Ceed vs Renault Megane

The optional Sport Chassis Control makes its debut at #Škoda in the new #Scala; the sporty chassis is 15 mm lower than the standard version and can be set to Normal or Sport using Driving Mode Select. Three TSI petrol engines with cylinder capacities of 1.0 or 1.5 l and a 1.6-litre TDI offer power outputs from 70 to 110 kW (95 to 150 PS); a 1.0 G-TEC producing 66 kW (90 PS) is set to follow in the fourth quarter of 2019 and is designed to run on environmentally friendly natural gas (CNG). They all fulfil the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard and can be coupled with a manual gearbox (5- or 6-speed) or a 7-speed DSG. All of the petrol engines are equipped with a petrol particulate filter. The 1.6 TDI is fitted with a diesel particulate filter.

#Hyundai Motor has refined its i30 model range with the introduction of Euro 6d Temp compliant engines and a design update.

The powertrain update makes the Hyundai i30 five-door, i30 Wagon, i30 Fastback and i30 N compliant with the latest emission standards. The newly-developed Smartstream 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine reduces CO2 emissions and improves fuel efficiency, and comes with three different power outputs: 96 PS (70kW) available with a 6-speed manual transmission (6MT), 116 PS (85kW) available with 6MT or the 7-speed dual clutch transmission (7DCT), and 136 PS (100kW) with 6MT or 7DCT.

A new 'Kappa' 1.4-litre T-GDi power unit replaces the earlier 1.6-litre GDI engine and produces 140ps, 4 per cent more than its predecessor despite its lower displacement. The engine's turbocharger ensures a wider torque band than the earlier 1.6-litre engine, making it more responsive in a wider range of driving conditions - while also reducing emissions. 242 Nm torque is available from 1,500 to 3,200 rpm, with combined emissions (on the WLTP cycle converted back to NEDC 2.0) as low as 125 g/km when fitted with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Manual models emit 130 g/km, or 128 g/km with the ECO Pack.

The new Megane will be available with six highly-efficient engines from launch - three ENERGY dCi diesels delivering 90, 110 or 130hp, and three TCe petrol units with outputs of 100, 130 or 205hp. The EDC dual-clutch automatic transmission will be offered with the dCi 110 (six-speed) and the TCe 130 (seven-speed) engines. The seven-speed EDC is standard with the TCe 205 unit in the GT.

The core of the range will be the ENERGY dCi 110 diesel engine with a six-speed manual gearbox. This version of the new Megane emits just 86g of CO2 per kilometre and has NEDC combined fuel consumption of 85.6mpg, meaning it is ECO2-listed. Since June 2015 Renault has been using the ECO2 label to highlight the most economical engine in each model range.
