I went for a look around Middlesbrough to learn about it's industrial heritage and speak to some locals. I also tried the famous Middlesbrough dish 'Parma'

finally somebody who has taken the time to look round Middlesbrough and engage with the people and heritage of this once proud place on the tees and not just knock it from a far well done

Most older Middlesbrough people identify with Yorkshire, there was always one Yorkshire county cricket match there each summer and it said North Riding on our birth certificates. Teesside is a place that has no official borders but everyone knows if they're a Teessider. In the 70s our tiny part of England produced over a quarter of the wealth of the whole country (according to Rod Liddle, journalist)
I liked it at the end chatting with normal locals and the great story about the American Indian travelling salesman!

Just watched your Middlesbrough vlog, reckon your finest hour . The way you engaged local stories and people was moving, why are you not the head of bbc news reporting is beyond me you are part of a dying breed of journalism.

Thank you for a wonderful video. I am of 87yrs born 1937. I am a Yorkshire man and always will be. I was born in Calthorpe St Cannon Park. In them day's everyone looked after and helped each other, no steeling no drugs etc. I am sorry to say, England has lost it's way.

Total kudos 👏 for listening to the homeless. I work in supported housing but for folk half the age of those you interviewed. Thank you for giving them a voice and treating them with respect.
Their back story is horrifically familiar to my ears. These are people worthy of our time, support and love.
Thanks, James. 👌❤️

The transporter bridge is getting restored and will feature a visitors center when it reopens in the summer of 25 as long as everything runs smoothly

I live in Middlesbrough, have done for 49 years, and the crime is bad. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not bad. They don't report on it, they sweep it under the rug, and you discovered yourself what they are willing to do regarding the homeless. Imagine what they're willing to do regarding crime.

This is so well put together, I’m Middlesbrough born, always proud of where I am from, thank you for your positive comments and peaceful vibe, these days it’s a rarity to watch something decent and non political which isn’t inciting hatred and violence

In 2002 the transporter bridge was involved in a story line on Auf Wiedersehen Pet, where they’d sold the bridge to America and it was going to be dismantled and moved to America. It caused an uproar as residents thought it was for real!
My son also did a bungee jump off the top of the bridge, a present for his 21st birthday from his partner. We were both stood watching, not breathing.
It’s called a Parmo not a Parma. It’s not to my taste, too fatty for me. It was always eaten at the end of a night out from a takeaway in the town centre.

Great Vlog 👍
As someone from Billingham with family ties to Boro, this hit home a little for me. Great people that have repeatedly been let down by those in power. It gets a bad rap, rightly so at times but the people of Boro, and the North East in general are absolutely different gravy. UTFB!

Hi James
My hubby and I love watching you and Helen.
In a world full of problems, we can always count on you two making us laugh.
I’m originally from Sheffield and came to Perth Aussie in 1976 as a child.
I really miss the UK at times, the countryside and the history.
Watching you go to Castleton and Bakewell brought back many memories.
If you ever come to Aussie let us know
All the best and keep going

I'm a Brummie. Born in Aston (peakey blinder land). My dad was a Geordie. Going up to Newcastle always felt like going home. It still does. I love the north.
