Solo ultralight hiking 60 miles across Tenerife | Burnt forests, freezing deserts and relentless sun

With El Teide looming in the distance on every Canary Island I'd hiked on the GR131 so far, I was thrilled to finally make its acquaintance.

I reached Tenerife in March 2024, having spent the previous 4 days being sandblasted on Fuerteventura. Join me as I tackle the largest of the Canary Islands and discover that there's way more to this incredibly island than you might think.

Check out my other GR131 stages:

Thanks!

Hi Jonno.
Congratulations on completing the GR131, that is a great achievement. Love your choice of music and songs. Just watched your Coast to Coast video earlier ( Too cold for showing the bare bum ?? 🤣)
All the best.

Enjoyable video, thank you, if quite 'stark' in some respects. Those poor forests. looking forward to your next one.

Fantastic, well done crazy cat dude. Brilliant vid and again crying with laughter but so appreciate the space you give in the shots for me to think. Just back from Maderia which has been clobbered by wild fire, tight steep roads with difficult access in an emergency.

Nice video. Also completed the Tenerife section in March this year so it was great to follow your adventure. Going to watch your Cran Canaria one tonight 😀

Which Canary Island did you like the most? For me it's La Gomerra so far, but next year I'm going to La Palma, so maybe I'll like it more.
And have you thought about going other routes than GR131? On Tenerife, the GR131 passes the most beautiful places on the island (northeast and northwest).

So you did not encounter any issues or restrictions on the burned part of the trail at all? I am doing this hike next month and can't really find any official information on it other than that the trail between La Esperanza and El Portillo is ''closed'.
