Boris Johnson's Brexit campaign posters were clear enough. “LET’S GIVE OUR NHS THE £350 MILLION THE EU TAKES EVERY WEEK”. *

So, where’s the money?

Obviously, it’s nowhere to be seen. Otherwise, why is Mr Johnson’s government now having to squeeze the poor until the pips squeak?**

Wasn’t Britain supposed to be better off because of Brexit?

It's true we’ve had an expensive pandemic.

But even so, we should know what’s happened to the £18.2 billion a year that Boris Johnson personally promised would be given to the NHS every year if we boarded his bus to Brexit land.

In July last year, Mr Johnson was even claiming that the £350m a week was a "slight underestimate".

If true, it means that the NHS should now be getting even more than £18.2 billion extra a year as a result of Brexit.

So, where's the money? Yes, where is it?

I’ll tell you. We haven’t got it because the bus claim was a lie.

We never sent as much as £350 million a week to the EU. We sent much less.

But that isn’t the real issue. The point is that we got far more back from our annual EU membership fee than it cost us.

It means that, actually, EU membership didn’t cost us anything. It made us better off.

EU membership was hugely profitable for the UK and its citizens. Watch the video for the facts.

So, here’s the bottom line. If we’d stayed in the EU, the country and the government would have more money than we do now, not less.

Yes, in the EU, more money for the NHS, not less because of Brexit.

These are the naked facts.

Isn’t it time to consider turning the bus around, with a new, more competent driver?

** Former Labour Chancellor, Denis Healey, was alleged to have once said that he wanted to “squeeze the rich until the pips squeak”. But with Boris Johnson’s government, it’s the poor they want to squeeze.
