The JP2C sounds huge here, but the Mark V is brighter and clearer (the clarity is definitely from the brightness). I think you probably could dial in more brightness on the JP2C.
The difference with the JP2C is that it is an authentic re-issue of the Mark IIC+, and the most important part of that is the massive transformer it has which is the original part. That huge transformer is what makes it sound so huge and it also makes the amp really tight and handle low end very well. The huge transformer gives it a short transient response which makes the amp tight. That also makes it really responsive to your playing. You can make the JP2C sound like the Mark V, but you can’t get the Mark V to match the JP2C exactly in terms of feel and sound because of the transformer.
Given the transformer and also all the extra features like two graphic EQs, shred mode, and midi, I think the JP2C is a better package. But the Mark V does have a lot of flexibility given all the modes. But I think JP2C can be versatile too. That’s just what I think. I definitely would like to get a JP2C.
Also, really amazing playing on the solo with the purple majesty!

Before you decide to kick her to the curb, try it out with the effects loop bypassed. It bypasses the effects loop, output knob, and solo knob. If you dig the sound, turn the amp off > turn effects loop toggle back on> turn down all channel volumes> max out output volume and solo volume> turn amp back on with solo switch engaged> and use the channel volumes as you would an EVH. Sounds better. Dunno if you will like it more than JP2C, but I think it sounds better this way. thanks

I’ve played both the JP and the Mark V. I ended up getting the Mark V because I thought it sounded better and had more options than the JP. Don’t get me wrong the JP is great but the Mark IV setting is just amazing on the Mark V. Great video man.

Both amps sound great. Thanks for such a deep dive into the metal tones of both.. you deserve so many more views. Killer job. Looking forward to buying one, likely the JP2C.. I own a JVM410H and always wanted a Mesa as well. Thanks man !!

MkV kicked the shit out of the jp2c clarity wise for the rhythm riffs.

Preferred the V on this video, but i read the comments and it seems the JP is the better amp.

Ive played through both.
The V90 sounds more bright, cold and shrill
The JP2C sounds warmer and much darker (which I like) and is much more saturated.
Only thing is that the JP2C can sound quite muffled like a blanket over the speaker.

It’s funny how all of your descriptions of the JP match my impressions of the Mark V. I found it much more pleasing overall. Of course I don’t have the benefit of being in the room or playing through it.

Do a shootout between Diezel VH4 and Mesa Boogie JP2C! Would love to see which wins overall for best texture, in room feel and gain!

You more or less summed up what I've read about these two amps and glad I have two JP2C's and could not be happier and glad you are keeping yours! \m/

Nice video and playing! Great comparison on these 2 head to head. I think the mkV seems a little bit clearer but also thinner vs jp which sounds fuller and more aggressive overall. JP was a little muffled in comparison in the mix but definitely not getting lost. To me it sounds like the bass and lower mids on the jp are just stronger and maybe that’s what I was hearing. Definitely agree that the jp sounds thicker and richer especially in isolation. Lead sounded more fluid and vocal on jp but still was good on mkv. I feel like jp would be a more forgiving amp and i imagine it does feel better to play. Thanks again for great content!

I like the mark v best. What do you use for your drums?

I think a true JP signature head would have been channel one the way it is but Channel two the Mark 2C+ and Channel 3 the Mark 4 voicings. Now if Mesa would only develop a JH Mark 2C++.

JP2C wins easy and on wish list for amps along with a Diezel VH4.

Just got the JP
What are your setting for the solo segment
It’s just what I’m looking for
Also JP2c vs the new VII?

JP-2C sounded great!! Nice show too!
Which cab and speakers do you like better for JP-2C between the Diezel K-100 and Mesa with the Dv-77?

Wonder how JP’s newly released settings would compare now. His new settings seemed way more forward, almost louder.

I knew you would pick the JP-2c. It's still my favorite MESA amp.

Listening on 3" Genelecs and the Mark V is slaying the JP2C. JP2C sounds muffled in comparison for the rhythm mixes, not as stark of a difference in the lead mix section but still a little noticeable. Cheers!
