Steve Corino would find a lot of success in the NWA first wrestling for its affiliated companies in 1997 and going on to become NWA 2000 Light Heavyweight Champion and also the NWA American Heritage Champion in that year and In 1998 he would become NWA United States Tag Team Champions with Lance Diamond. Corino's most notable run in the NWA was in 2001 where he became NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion after defeating Mike Rapada. He would defend the title in multiple different NWA affiliated companies against the likes of Sabu, Pat Tanaka, Shinya Hashimoto, Juggernaut, Buck Quartermain and more before the title was vacated and won by Shinya Hashimoto. Corino would never regain the title but would win other NWA titles such as the NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship, Heartland States Heavyweight Championship and the Midwest Heavyweight Championship.
