Here's how to ACTUALLY do it in the app.
Press the 3 lines at the bottom of your screen, so you can see all apps that are open. The hold down on youtube, and it should work.

in Firefox you don't need to select Desktop Mode, you just go to YouTube, hit Play, hit Power Button, hit Power Button again, hit Play on the Notification bar!🥴
