It's not racist. They are making fun of a specific caucasian subculture (Weaboos can be any race, this sketch just happens to depict them as white) which is fascinated with Japanese media. The addition of the Japanese studies professor as a fact-checker is a nice touch.

I bet there’s a writer on SNL that’s a weeb or something because the accuracy of this is immaculate

They REALLY should revive this for all the hardcore Kpop stans

I love how Fred Armisen is just randomly in this.

I studied Japanese for five years, helped tutor in my college classes... and sweet Jesus this is completely true. The amount of weebs who fill the class is staggering.
If you know a Japanese teacher give them alcohol. They need it to cope.

I’m guessing the people who were offended by this are not japanese, but weebs.

Idk why people in the comments are getting so offended. I am part Japanese. I found this hilarious. It's not making fun of Japanese people or white people. It is making fun of weeabos.

Jonah Hill losing it makes me laugh so damn hard. What a fun sketch.

I taught classes on Japanese pop culture at a university for quite a few years, and I can verify that, yes, this may be exaggerated a bit, but only a bit. The weeaboos I taught tended to be good kids, but some of them really did struggle to differentiate between fantasy/anime/video games and reality. So, I got a pretty good laugh from this.

Me: Jesus, that's not the majority of anime fans.
Also Me: But... it's not exactly a small minority either.

This is making fun of weebs, not Japanese culture. People need to calm down

Vanessa's eye makeup is IMMACULATE. Literally every beginner cosplayer does their makeup like that

As a psychology major with a minor in Japanese culture studies (aka collectivist psychology) I can tragically confirm that my freshman year, every student in language class were like this. Even by the second semester they had mostly thinned out or disappeared since they had to come to terms with the fact that learning Japanese requires actual study and not binge watching Naruto, but still, that first semester was agonising. I pitied the professor, a young Japanese woman who clearly came to the U.S. to share her love of language and culture and instead had any remaining ambition or dignity brutally destroyed. Sometimes I wonder how she’s doing nowadays, if she’s actually stayed here or retreated back to Japan.

The saddest thing about this sketch is knowing people like this actually exist.
That also makes this sketch completely hilarious! xD

The details of the "Styrofoam my speakers were packed in" and the "cardboard tube my Kill Bill poster came in" kill me.

Vanessa Bayer's face is the gift that keeps on giving. Funny and adorable

Poor Jonah. He’s trying to stay in character so hard.

"Meet guesturu!" finished me.

small detail I just now noticed, Jonah is holding his sword backwards so the sharp edge of the plastic is facing his chest not the ground. truly he is the master of the 6 sword technique.

I swear him not being able to stay in character makes this 300% funnier
